SysBack for EPOC

One of the biggest problems with this though, is setting everything back up. On the 3a/3c/3mx/Siena, this was a major pain, as the System would revert back to an almost 'brand new' state, and you'd lose all the icons you'd installed, all the zoom and font settings, etc. and more! The EPOC machines which SysBack supports (all of the current range - Psion Series 5/5mx/7/netBook/Revo, Ericsson MC 218, Geofox-One, Oregon Osaris) are far better in that most of the settings are saved. The only ones which are 'lost' are things like zoom and column width. However, still having to set these up after each reset really annoyed me, and so SysBack was born.

At about 10K for the overall installation, it's small and efficient, and it works via a very simple but easy to use dialog interface, as seen in these shots here:

And this screen shot shows the new v2.10F release running in Japanese!

The choices you make are then stored in a small file in C:\System\Apps\SysBack\ so that next time you run SysBack (i.e. after the next reset) they are offered as the default. Selecting the OK button on the main dialog will start SysBack off on restoring the System with the settings you picked. Simple as that.

Registration Information

• Although SysBack is Freeware, I still retain all right on the code for it, and reverse translation is strictly forbidden!
• To work effectively, SysBack assumes it is always started from the state just after a Shell reset. If you run SysBack when the System has not been reset, then nothing majorly bad will happen, but some of the view settings will not end up as desired.
• Finally, SysBack works by sending certain keypresses to the System shell. Sadly, although this is a workable solution, it is quite a crude way of doing things. It is, however, the best I can do from OPL. The only caveat here is that this may give rise to certain problems with foreign machines, as keypresses may differ from that of an English machine (on which SysBack was written and tested). If SysBack works OK on your non-UK English machine, please get in touch to let me know, and I can add it to the list at the bottom of the page.

  And if doesn't work 100% OK on your machine, then please try and take a few minutes to e-mail me with some simple details. All I need to know are the keypresses in the System Shell which carry out the following actions:

  a) Zoom in
  b) Zoom out
  c) Set usage gauge on/off
  d) Turn toolbar on/off
  e) Increase column width
  f) Decrease column width
  g) Brings up the "Remote link" dialog (where you set the baud rate, etc.)
  h) Brings up Control Panel (not the toolbar button, but the keypress which can be found under the "Tools" menu)
  i) Brings up the dialog to set the Home city, when you're in the "Time & date" section of the Control Panel.

  If you can send me those, I will be able to alter SysBack and release an update which will work exactly as intended on all machines of that language. If you are interested in translating SysBack to work in the language of your machine, then please also get in touch. As you will see from the table below, several non-English languages are already available.
